Josh Curran has been rewarded for a stellar first season with Canterbury with a contract extension through until the end of the 2026 campaign.

The 25-year-old made the move to Belmore after his five-year stay in New Zealand came to an acrimonious end

"We are pleased that Josh has extended his time with the Bulldogs," the club's General Manager of Football, Phil Gould, said.

"He has clearly played some of his best football this year and become an integral part of the team as both a major contributor on and off the field."

Josh Curran re-signs with the Canterbury Bulldogs

Curran highlighted his enjoyment in playing under Cameron Ciraldo as one of the major factors behind his decision to re-sign.

The versatile forward was used across the Dogs' pack in 2024, spending time in the front row, at lock and as an impact player off the bench.

"I started loving my footy again under Ciro," Curran declared after a frustrating final season with the Warriors before his departure.

"He was a big part of why I played well this year. He had trust and belief in me and that's all I ever asked from him."

Curran featured in 24 matches during the season as he averaged 120 running metres and 31.5 tackles per game while quickly establishing himself as a key member of the side's pack.

His influence over the game was a far cry from his disappointing 2023 season, which saw him confined primarily to a bench role and seeing restricted minutes.

This ultimately led to him requesting a release from the final year of his deal under Andrew Webster to link up with the Dogs.

Curran was one of several signings the club made that helped them to turn around their fortunes as Canterbury played in the finals for the first time in eight years.

Along with the likes of Stephen Crichton, Bronson Xerri, Connor Tracey and Kurt Mann, the Dogs managed to finish in sixth spot on the ladder as they stitched together a strong second half of the season.

"I didn't realise how big and passionate the Bulldogs' fanbase is when I joined the club," the forward admitted.

"We say it all the time - you're not just playing for the club, you're also playing for the community."
