First Paul George, now Tyrese Maxey. 

Philadelphia's spending spree continued Monday morning as the 76ers signed Maxey, the team's starting point guard, to a max extension, locking a big three of Joel Embiid, Paul George and Maxey in through the 2026-27 season.

Maxey enjoyed a breakout campaign in 2023-24, averaging 25.9 points, 6.2 assists and 3.7 rebounds per game, all career bests. For his breakout campaign, he won the league's Most Improved Player award and was named to his first All-Star game.

Tyrese Maxey contract details

Maxey agreed to a five-year, $204 million maximum contract extension with Philadelphia on Monday, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. The new deal will pay Maxey an average of $40.8 million, which ranks tied for 13th among guards, according to Spotrac.

Maxey will have a cap hit of just over $35 million in the first year of his contract based on estimates from Spotrac. The contract will then escalate to just over $46 million in 2028-29.

Philadelphia 76ers contracts

The massive extension comes not long after Philadelphia agreed to a four-year, $212 million maximum contract with George, one of the top free agents on the market.

The deals with Maxey and George now give Philadelphia three contracts with overall values above $200 million as Embiid inked a four-year, $213 million extension. The first year of that extension was the 2023-24 season.
