Bronny James' rookie season took another step Wednesday in front of his father LeBron's hometown crowd in Cleveland.

While the Lakers lost, 134-110, to the Cavaliers, Bronny James scored his first NBA basket, albeit deep in garbage time in the fourth quarter.

The game represented homecoming of sorts for the James family. Bronny, like his father, was born in Akron, Ohio. With LeBron James playing for the Cavs and Heat, Bronny James spent his formative years in Ohio and Miami before the family moved to Los Angeles in 2018.

With the homecoming narrative serving as one of the many storylines in the game, Bronny James was expected to get his second taste of NBA action as Los Angeles continued its five-game road trip. He delivered, connecting twice with Dalton Knecht for a pair of assists in addition to his first professional bucket.

The Sporting News tracked James' performance during the Lakers' defeat at the hands of the Cavaliers.

9:17 p.m. ET: Bronny gets on the board, scoring his first NBA points in front of a hometown crowd in Cleveland.

9:13 p.m. ET: With 3:23 remaining, Bronny got another assist on a Knecht bucket, tossing him the ball en route to a dunk. 

9:11 p.m. ET: Bronny connects with Dalton Knecht, helping to set up his teammate with a layup and notching an assist. Knecht was fouled on the play and made the ensuing free throw to complete the 3-point play. 

9:09 p.m. ET: Bronny enters the game with 5:16 remaining and the Lakers trailing by 21 points, 119-98.

9:03 p.m. ET: With six minutes left, Cleveland has kept its healthy lead, which is now back to 20. This could be a good opportunity for LA to get Bronny some minutes.

8:58 p.m. ET: Cleveland began the fourth quarter on an 8-0 run extending the lead to 28. A Dalton Knecht three ends the run, but the Lakers need to get it going before it's to late.

End of third quarter: Cavaliers 99, Lakers 79

8:48 p.m. ET: Third quarter ends with the Cavaliers up 20, thanks to 22 points from Mitchell and 20 from Allen. On the other side, LeBron James has 26 points to lead all scorers, while Anthony Davis has 22 as well.

8:44 p.m. ET: The Lakers have been able to keep the Cavs' lead from ballooning, but haven't cut into it much. Cleveland remains up 18 late in the third quarter.

8:32 p.m. ET: Lakers go on a quick 6-0 run to get the Cavs lead back within 20, forcing a Cleveland timeout. LeBron James has 18 points to lead the team.

8:25 p.m. ET: Cleveland has extended its lead even more, taking a 75-51 difference into the first timeout of the half. Mitchell has reached 20 points on the night.

8:19 p.m. ET: The second half begins as the Lakers try to close the deficit, but the Cavs hit a three to open the half.

8:04 p.m. ET:  The first half ends with both teams trading blows, resulting in an even second quarter. Jarrett Allen and Donovan Mitchell have a combined 35 points to help Cleveland open a big lead.

7:51 p.m. ET: Jarrett Allen has a double-double already, totaling 12 points and 10 rebounds in just 15 minutes. Cavs have a 52-34 lead mid-way through the second quarter.

7:42 p.m. ET: After the Cavs extended the lead to 23, the Lakers began to chip away by scoring five straight points. Cleveland still leads by 18.

7:33 p.m. ET: LeBron checks back into the game as the Cavaliers close the first quarter as hot as they started, ending the period with a 19-point lead.

7:30 p.m. ET: LeBron James checks out of the game for Max Christie as Cleveland continues its hot start, as the lead is extended to 32-20.

7:25 p.m. ET: The Cavaliers hot start continues as Cleveland extends its lead to 11, forcing the Lakers to call their second timeout of the first quarter.

7:19 p.m. ET: This is a high-scoring game to start as the Cavs has a 20-15 lead as the Lakers call their first timeout. Austin Reaves leads the Lakers in scoring with five points and Donovan Mitchell leads all scoring with 10.

7:11 p.m. ET: We are underway from Cleveland! Lakers open with an early 4-0 lead.

7:10 p.m. ET: Before the game, Bronny James spoke about his life growing up in Cleveland and his return on Wednesday.

6:41 p.m. ET: The Lakers starting lineup remains the same as the previous four games.

5:58 p.m. ET: Lakers head coach JJ Redick hinted that Bronny may play tonight, which would be his second appearance this season.

5:40 p.m. ET: Cavaliers coach Kenny Atkinson praised the fact that LeBron and Bronny James are playing together as father-and-son.

"It's a beautiful story," Atkinson said, via Dan Woike. "We should celebrate it."

5:34 p.m. ET: The Cavaliers had special messages outside the Lakers locker room for both LeBron and Bronny James. The pictures show both after the Cavaliers won the 2016 NBA Finals, as LeBron held the Larry O'Brien trophy along with the Bill Russell NBA Finals MVP trophy. For Bronny, the picture showed him at 11 years old alongside his dad and then-Cavalier J.R. Smith.

5:30 p.m. ET: James got on the court earlier for pregame warmups as he prepares for his homecoming in Cleveland.
