The Dodgers did it for Vin Scully and Fernando Valenzuela. But most of all, they did it for the city of Los Angeles and the faithful fans who couldn't witness the team's 2020 World Series run in person.
The Boys in Blue won the franchise's eighth title Wednesday night, securing one of the most impressive Fall Classic victories in recent memory.
The series-clinching win took seven pitchers and multiple comebacks to secure the Dodgers' first World Series championship in front of fans — albeit in their opponents' ballpark — since 1988, when late Dodger broadcaster Scully and pitcher Valenzuela were members of the franchise.

Unfortunately for the Yankees, a team with the second-most expensive roster in MLB (behind only their crosstown rival Mets), they beat themselves with a litany of errors. Despite Aaron Judge's resurgence, with a first-inning home run to break a drought at the plate, New York couldn't seal the deal after ace Gerrit Cole gave up the lead in his 6.1-inning appearance.
Following a historic performance with four home runs in the final series, Freddie Freeman was named the decisive series MVP. Not only was he dealing with a lingering ankle issue sustained in the team's final regular-season series against San Diego, he is coming off a year in which his son Max was diagnosed with a rare condition called Gullian-Barre syndrome.
