It has been plain sailing for Arne Slot since he took over at Anfield. Can that continue as things get a little tougher in the Uefa Champions League?

RB Leipzig and Liverpool lock horns in an intriguing battle on Wednesday, October 23, with Slot's side looking to carry their excellent domestic form this season into European competition.

Liverpool are top of the Premier League after eight matches, having won seven and lost just one. In the Champions League, they've won two from two, swatting aside AC Milan and Bologna.

The Sporting News looks at the latest team news and predicted lineups for this mouthwatering match in Germany.

RB Leipzig vs. Liverpool lineups, predicted starting 11, team news

Leipzig will soon be the realm of former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, who is set to start work as the Red Bull brand's new Head of Global Football in January 2025. They are coached by Marco Rose, who has a few injury issues in his squad to contend with right now.

Xaver SchlagerDavid RaumNicolas Seiwald and Assan Ouedraogo are all out with fairly long-term injuries, while Rose also has concerns over the fitness of striker Lois Openda. The Belgian forward picked up a knock in Leipzig's 2-0 league win over Mainz at the weekend.

They could also be without midfield workhorse Amadou Haidara, who also hobbled off at Mainz and is a doubt for this one.

RB Leipzig predicted lineup (3-5-2, right to left): Gulacsi (GK) — Orban, Klostermann, Lukeba — Geertruida, Simons, Kampl, Baumgartner, Nusa — Sesko, Openda

Injured: Schlager, Raum, Seiwald, Ouedraogo, Openda (doubt), Haidara (doubt)
Suspended: None

Slot doesn't have too many injuries to worry about, although he said he would be "surprised" if Diogo Jota featured against Leipzig, after the Portuguese star lasted just half an hour of the 2-1 win over Chelsea.

Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz are Slot's options to potentially come into the side, with Cody Gakpo likely to be named on bench.

Liverpool's only other injuries are to young full-back Conor Bradley and Italian wide man Federico Chiesa, as well as goalkeeper Alisson Becker, who is out for a few weeks with a hamstring problem.

Neither Liverpool nor Leipzig have any players suspended.

Liverpool predicted lineup (4-3-3, right to left): Kelleher (GK) — Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson — Jones, Gravenberch, Mac Allister — Salah, Nunez, Diaz

Injured: Elliott, Bradley, Alisson, Chiesa, Jota (doubt)
Suspended: None
