Goals make games exciting, and that's exactly what fans were given in Dortmund during a crazy first half.

Last season's finalists Dortmund were up against Scottish champions Celtic at the Westfalenstadion, and were looking to play better than their indifferent start to the Bundesliga suggested.

And they certainly did that in the first half against Celtic, with six goals split between the two sides in the opening half hour of their league phase clash in the competition, which can be watched on Stan Sport.

Dortmund pull ahead, Adeyemi makes history with hat-trick

In a frantic first half in Dortmund, it was the home side who found themselves 5-1 up after half an hour, with three goals in four minutes beng the cherry on top.

Karim Adeyemi was the star of the show, scoring a hat-trick in 31 minutes in a phenomenal display, becoming the first Dortmund player to score a hat-trick in the competition since Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (2017) and Robert Lewandowski (2013); he is also the first to do it only in the first half.

Dortmund took the lead from the spot after a foul from Celtic keeper Kasper Schmeichel, as Emre Can converted; it was temporary as Celtic shocked their hosts and equalised instantly through Daizen Maeda.

Dortmund then hit back themselves through Adeyemi, meaning it was 2-1 after just 11 minutes.

Despite the end-to-end nature of the first half to this point, Dortmund soon pulled away from their opponents, as Adeyemi doubled his tally with a brilliant first time effort that he lashed into the roof of the net in the 29th minute.

The floodgates then opened as Dortmund scored two in two minutes.

It was another silly foul from the Scots that gave Dortmund another chance from the spot, with Serhou Guirassy making no mistake.

Adeyemi then capped off his dream first half as he dispossessed Maeda on the edge of the area, before drilling a low effort from the edge of the box into the bottom corner.

It was a remarkable display of clinical finishing from the Black and Yellow, with eight shots on target from 11 overall efforts in the first period.

The scoreline is made all the more remarkable given Celtic won 5-1 in their opening match of the competition against Slovakian minnows Slovan Bratislava.
