The biggest news first: Callum Mills is out of the 2024 AFL grand final.

"Mills trained this morning and after taking everything into consideration a joint decision was made by the club’s medical staff and the coaches to rule him out," a Swans media release on Wednesday said.

Mills initially strained his hamstring at training a fortnight ago, missing the preliminary final, yet completed a fitness test on Wednesday morning, later telling reporters he hoped he had done enough to prove his fitness.

The Swans had until Thursday night to decide whether the 27-year-old Swans captain would be named but made an early call late Wednesday afternoon.

Sydney have since officially named the same team that defeated Port Adelaide in the preliminary dinals.

Forward Logan McDonald has been cleared to play in the big dance, with an ankle injury in the prelim initially placing a cloud over McDonald’s involvement.

Taylor Adams will once again miss out on the grand final, after not being named as an emergency sub. It marks the second time in as many years that Adams has missed the decider.

Brisbane Lions team news

Oscar McInerney will miss the grand final after dislocating his shoulder in the preliminary final win over Geelong.

Darcy Fort will step in as ruckman for Chris Fagan’s men.

"Darcy Fort has been our No. 2 ruckman all year," Fagan said on Fox Footy.

"Young Henry Smith is not too far behind him.

"But just a little bit less experienced. And Darcy’s form throughout the VFL finals, our team got through to the prelim, so he’s ready-made (and) fit to come in.

"He’ll be a logical replacement for Oscar."

No other changes have been made to the Lions side that beat Geelong last week.
